Tech 21 LM300
A-side of my rig.
This is the best rock amp on the planet.
I tried many amps before choosing this one. I also use it to record. Since it has 2 channels that can be used simultaneously, it solved having to take an additional rig for the rock tones I like.

B212 Avatar Neodymium
U.S. Made Eminence Neo 12 LFs. I tried many speakers also. Not only did this one sound the best, it is lightweight and the best cab bargain on the market. It has the punch and clarity of 210’s with a tight, big bottom. I roll the tweater back to about a ¼.

SansAmp Bass Driver DI:
The desert island piece of gear. I use it mainly for recording in conjunction with the LM300. Also use it when an amp isn’t required.

SWR Goliath Jr. :
This is the original 210
Very punchy for a little cab
Tweeter rolled back halfway
Not as “sizzly” as the II or III

Morley ABY:
Used to split my signal
Usually ran in A and B

SWR ST220:
B-Side. Very clean amp. The SWR “sound”. I use this amp in conjunction with the LM300 when I need more power. It is also my main amp for ERB’s and fretless.

Line 6 Bass Podxt Live
Used for live effects with the SWR with the amp settings off.
Also use it for recording with the amp settings on.
I love the convenience of an all in one, programmable box.

Dunlop picks
For the rare occasion when I need a pick (yes, I will wield one if it is called for)
1.5mm or 2mm

The only pickup I will use
Some thoughts on gear::
While I used to be a believer in “bigger is better”, I have since changed my mind set. At one time I had a massive rig. The sound was great on stage but out front was a different story. When the band started to turn up, the FOH guy turned the bass down. AARGH! So after experimenting, I found I could get the same sound with a smaller rig (which is easier to haul also) running a DI from each side and using In Ear Monitors. This allows me more control of my sound out front as well as my stage sound. Granted, it doesn’t look quite as impressive, but tonally it is much better, and gives the FOH more headroom for the bass.
I also am a firm believer in being able to maintain my own gear. Over the years I have gotten pretty handy with a solder iron, reading wiring schematics and ohms meters, fixing cables, pedals and speaker cabs. I change my own strings, adjust my truss rods and intonation and do all of the general maintenance on my basses.
